I’m beyond thrilled to report that we just trapped Trixie missing from Mountain Top since April 21st!! This little peanut was a tough cookie for many reasons and the brutal weather didn’t help.

I’m beyond exhausted, but she is worth every moment that was dedicated to saving her.

Kaia – Recovered – 01-22-2023

January 22, 2023 By tracey

Thrilled to report we safely trapped this beautiful soul named Kaia around 3:30 am today that was lost since January 19, 2023 in Gouldsboro.

She escaped from her foster mom with her leash still attached very early Thursday morning. Kaia covered some ground and was traveling through a busy industrial park and vast amounts of woods.

On Friday I received a message from a friend about a “dumped” dog in an industrial park. As soon as she said the town, I knew immediately that it was Kaia a lost dog and she wasn’t “dumped” like so many people assume when they see a dog roaming. Thanks Kat for the message. ??

I immediately called her rescue and they connected me with her foster. Spoke at leghth with her wonderful foster Holly on Friday and had a feeling that Kaia was going to need to be trapped and needed some serious help especially after learning her history.

Kaia’s foster parents Holly and Chris listened to everything I asked them to do until I got there late Saturday morning. Went with my gut and set the trap in an area where she would have some privacy and protection from the elements despite her tracks not going to that specific spot.

It all paid off around 1245 am when I saw that beautiful face on the camera by the trap. She did the “trap dance” for several hours, then took a nap behind the trap, then when she woke she built up the courage to go all the way into the trap. A little food in the belly and a short nap does a World of good for a lost, terrified dog and I say it all the time. Get food in their belly it is critical for their state of mind!!
She did exactly what I needed her to do. Good girl, so proud of you Kaia. ??

Holly sat with her next to the trap and we flew up the highway to safely get her out of the trap. Always fun getting a terrified dog out of a trap in the dark in the woods that absolutely doesn’t want to come out of the trap and walking her down a steep icy ridge. ? All good girl, I get you. She was a champ with me coming down the embankment stuck to my side like glue with a little bit of direction.

We drove her home and made sure she got into the house safely and got her settled in for the night. Kaia is scared, but an absolute sweetheart that let me give her kisses and she leaned right into me. Melted my heart in a second with that trademark Shepherd lean.

Holly and Chris were an absolute pleasure to work with and I’ll continue to work with them to get Kaia through her fears.

Kaia is going to be a Rockstar, no doubt in my mind. ?? you girl so proud of you!! ??
