On August 13th, I was asked to help a dog that was seen off and on wandering the woods for at least 3 weeks. I am very happy to report that as of early this morning she was safely trapped!!! We searched and searched for an owner, but until this morning we didn’t know who the owner was as there were no lost reports filed. The story that I unraveled this morning can be summed up in one word….crazy. The short version of the story is the dog was sold from original owners, then given up by the new owner, then lost from the rescue. My head was spinning this morning from the ridiculousness of what happened to this poor dog in such a short time frame.
She was taken to be groomed today and I decided this girl needed to be in a foster home and not a kennel. So, guess who is fostering her? You guessed it, me and my hubby. smile emoticon I’m a sucker for a lost scared dog. They need love and special care to readjust. This poor girl never had a good life to begin with….but, today that all changes. Starting today you will know love, kindness, have a warm bed, a yard to play in, fur brothers and fur sisters to play with and a full belly. Today is the beginning of your happily ever after sweet girl. Miss Dixie is settling in and is as sweet as can be…a bit scared, but that will fade and we will build her confidence with positive reinforcement and consistency.
Special thanks to Megan for caring enough to take a photo and posting this lost dog, so we could help her. Many people turn a blind eye to dogs wandering and think it must be the neighbor’s dog or believe it isn’t their problem. This dog was lost and needed help. Thank you to Eddie and his fiance that allowed us to invade their property to setup a food station and trap. Thank you to Bonnie for once again loaning me her big trap, I appreciate your kindness and generosity.
As soon as I saw Dixie on the video, I knew she was SUPER skiddish and although she would of easily fit in my trap….we needed to get her quick and needed the big trap so it would be less intimidating for her. Time was of the essence especially with neighbors constantly shooting off guns right near where she was passing through. I already recovered 2 dogs that were shot over the last few months and I didn’t want poor Dixie to be next.
Thank you to Stacie for once again going to pick up the trap and for dropping Dixie off at the groomer while I was at work. You are so awesome, I can’t even thank you enough!!!! Thanks to my hubby for going with me to check the trap every few hours from Saturday through this morning. It is an exhausting process, but the end result is totally worth it. And thanks for not freaking out when I decided to bring another lost dog home to foster. 🙂
Miss Dixie is doing very well and I think she made herself at home. wink emoticon She is going to have the best night sleep since she was lost a month ago. Sweet dreams little girl, you are safe now….no more worries. Love you Dixie girl….welcome to your new beginning. We are going to find you an awesome furever home. <3 you Dixie
