We trapped Bonnie today missing since October 17 from North Syracuse, New York after escaping from her owner’s home with her brother Clyde. Clyde didn’t get far at all and the owner was able to get him back in the house, but Bonnie took off.
Bonnie’s rescue, Second Chance, contacted me on December 1 and we did a phone consultation on December 2. Sarah from the rescue got right to work and on December 4, a sighting finally came. There were no sightings in weeks of Bonnie. When Bonnie first went missing they had sightings and had a trap out for her. But, she didn’t want to have anything to do with the trap and kept flipping it over to get the food out. Then she left that spot and sightings were then few and far between until they completely stopped weeks ago.
After Sarah contacted me, food stations were put out, cameras setup, areas searched and businesses were notified as this is a high industrial area. Within 48 hours we knew where she was and then the process began to get her to safety.
Sarah did great at following my, sometimes crazy, instructions and got Bonnie to eat at the food stations consistently. I drove up today and set the trap with the help of Sarah, her hubby Donovan, her dad Joe and Kim and her hubby Mike from the rescue.
Just over an hour later she showed up at the trap and within 5 minutes of showing up at the trap, she went in and the door shut behind her. I ran to the trap, calmed her down and called Sarah to let her know the wonderful news.
We got her out of the trap, loaded into the car and took her to the emergency vet nearby. All her bloodwork was great except for one slightly high level that may indicate she has a parasite. Not unusual at all because of what lost dogs eat while they are lost. She was given a dewormer and will be all better in no time at all.
Bonnie is a sweet girl that had a crappy life before coming into the rescue. She deserves her happily ever after and I’m sure she will find the perfect home. Love, patience, understanding, positive reinforcement and lost prevention go along way to help a scared dog. She will thrive in the right home and will be an outstanding, loyal family member.
I want to thank Sarah for contacting me about Bonnie and for not giving up on her. You rocked everything I asked you to do, thank you. 🙂 Thank you to Donovan and Joe for helping move the trap today. Thank you to the Kim and Mike and her hubby for helping with the trap today and for making sure she seen a vet immediately after we got her to safety.
Thank you to Syracuse Haulers for allowing us full access to your property and for coming out and unlocking the gate once she was in the trap, so I could drive the truck up to load the trap and get her safely loaded into the car. Thank you to my friends Stacie and Brad for letting me borrow your truck today. It was a very long drive today in the snow, 5.5 hours round trip….but, totally worth it to see Bonnie safe.
Thank you to my wonderful hubby that had to work today then watch our pack and our foster dog. Missed my partner in crime today, especially with criminal siblings named Bonnie and Clyde. 🙂
Love you Bonnie, you are safe now no more running, being scared in the woods and fighting to survive the brutal Syracuse snow and weather. Love you girl. We usually don’t travel out of state because of the time and cost, but this girl needed help and I couldn’t leave her out there.
